Nothing quiet beats the smooth vibes of Motown classics, so with the UK’s No. 1 Motown show coming to Newport’s Riverfront theatre, it was sure to be a magical night.
The Riverfront was packed to the rafters with eager fans; so, with the audience pumped and ready, the singers took to the stage, suited and booted, to perform some of the greatest hits from the most soulful era in music.
We were treated to a back catalogue of memorable Motown hits such as legendary Lionel Ritchie’s ‘Dancing on the Ceiling’ and ‘All Night Long’, Marvin Gaye’s ‘I Heard it Through the Grapevine’ and ‘How Sweet It Is’, and Stevie Wonder’s ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ and ‘Superstition’ as well as big hits from The Isley Brothers, Smokey Robinson, Edwin Starr, Luther Vandross, and more.
My personal favourites included the renditions of ‘My Girl’ and ‘Ain’t Too Proud to Beg’ by The Temptations, ‘Blame it On the Boogie’ by the Jackson Five, and ‘Loco in Acapulco’ by The Four Tops.
The performers were super charismatic with the audience and they were spot on with each and every performance; their vocals were flawless and silky smooth, and their dance moves were slick. I think they had a fair few ladies swooning! Credit must be given to the live band too as they were absolutely fantastic.
The atmosphere was excellent throughout the whole evening and everyone really let themselves go, dancing and singing along to the classics. It was a night of soul and feel-good music not to be missed.
